The 2019 Business Excellence Awards, sponsored by Bell, were handed out at the awards ceremony which was held at Showplace Performance Centre on October 16th, 2019. The 16th annual ceremony, presented by the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce is designed to publicly recognize and honour local businesses, and business leaders who have demonstrated a passion for excellence.
“We see our local business owners striving for excellence daily” Says Ben vanVeen, Chair of the Chamber Board of Directors. “From small acts to large decisions, they come together to help make our community a thriving place to live, work, and play.”
Hosted by Megan Murphy, the ceremony featured video profiles of more than 50 businesses and individuals in 20 categories; including Skilled Trades, 4-Under-40, Not-for-Profit, Marketing & Promotion, and Employer of the Year. Recipients were announced live on stage, in front of 500 members of the local business community.
The Peterborough Chamber of Commerce also announced Carmela Valles, owner of Carmela Valles Immigration Consulting as the recipient of the Business Citizen of the Year Award, sponsored by Nexicom. Since the Chamber of Commerce is a business-to-business organization, the role and effect that a nominee for the Business Citizen of the Year Award has had in the business community is extremely important. The Chamber of Commerce also recognizes the importance of volunteerism within the broader community. Carmela joins a long list of Business Citizens of the Year, who have all made a significant contribution to the community.
The Chamber congratulates all of the 2019 finalists and recipients. To learn more about these exceptional businesses and business leaders in our community, check out the 2019 video profiles at
